MADISON, Wis. (Court TV) — A medical examiner says human remains found during a search for a missing Wisconsin couple belong to the husband.
Bart and Krista Halderson were reported missing July 7, by their son, 23-year-old Chandler Halderson. He told the Dane County Sheriff’s Office that his parents hadn’t returned since spending the Fourth of July weekend at their White Lake cabin with an unknown couple.
According to a news release, “As the investigation progressed and detectives interviewed friends, family and neighbors of the missing couple, information was provided which resulted in detectives finding human remains on a rural property in Dane County on Thursday, July 8th.”
The remains were identified as belonging to Bart Halderson. The cause of death was reported as “homicidal violence including firearm injury,” according to The Associated Press.
Chandler Halderson was arrested on a charge of providing false information in a missing person investigation on July 8. Jail records as of July 12 show additional charges of mutilating a corpse, hiding a corpse and first-degree intentional homicide.
Krista Halderson remains missing.
