Tuite is back in custody Monday evening after escaping from the San Diego courthouse where his trial for the murder of 12-year-old Stephanie Crowe was slated to begin. The mentally ill drifter was at large for more than four hours before his recapture about 10 miles away from the courthouse.

Soon after 12-year-old Stephanie Crowe was found stabbed to death in her bedroom in Escondido, Calif., police said the victim's teen brother, Michael, and two of his friends murdered the girl. Police even illicited confessions from two of the boys. The charges were dropped, however, when Richard Raymond Tuite, a mentally ill drifter, became the prime suspect.
