Court TV Host: Nancy Grace is here!
Nancy Grace: Had to go get my slimfast!
Court TV Host: Welcome, Nancy. No product endorsements here!
Nancy Grace: HIT ME!
Question from Trisha: Hi Nancy...what is the latest on Laci?
Question from gradee: So what is the news on Laci, if any?
Nancy Grace: THERE IS SOMETHING ON LACI! The media has filed a request that all the search warrants be opened up to the public. The police are opposing it. A hearing was held in front of a local trial judge and we are waiting on a ruling! The family is split on it from what I've read, police claim opening the warrants and the probable cause supporting the warrants and the "return"...what was taken during the search could be a tip off to the killer as to where the investigation is headed! Will keep you posted! Normally...it is public
Question from Trisha: at this point, couldnt it hinder the case to open it up?
Nancy Grace: Exactly...that is what police are arguing.
Question from Jerry: What is Laci's husband doing these days?
Nancy Grace: Same...spot to spot fertilizer front man. An expert in...well...you know what fertilizer is.
Question from PQ5: How often are they suppressed?
Nancy Grace: They are kept "sealed", very rarely!
Question from Zeppo: Nancy, hello. I have followed Laci's family website. It appears that it will no longer be updated. Do you have any information as to why the family may have made that decision?
Nancy Grace: They stopped updating back in March...I was very disappointed. The continued activity with the public helped find Elizabeth Smart and bring her home. I think this is a huge mistake...
Question from SherFra: Why is the family opposed to opening search warrants?
Nancy Grace: Some of them agree with police that the probable cause affidavits attached to the S.W. to support the judges ruling to allow the search would tip off the killer as to where police are headed, what they are thinking, although the location of the searches -- the home, boat, cars of s.p. is tipoff enough!
Question from kiara: Nancy do you think Modesto police interacted with San Diego investigators?
Nancy Grace: I hope so!
Question from Jayla: Nancy, are there any new developments in the Smart investigation?
Nancy Grace: Yes... the arraignment...formal reading of the charges and their entrance of pleas was delayed as I predicted... to have a mental exam run on the two defendants I'm predicting a Hedda Nussbaum defense for Barzee and possible insanity or even CONSENT for Mitchell's defense.
Question from Mollie: Nancy, I understand the Smarts have hired someone in Hollywood to help them with movie deals, what do you know?
Nancy Grace: I know they are fielding lots of book/movie offers. At first i thought it was wrong, BUT the fact is that someone is going to produce it, right or wrong it may be, so the Smarts may be wise to have their own version told to a jury pool!
Question from SherFra: Nancy do you think police may have placed a GPS locater in Scott's car, in the hope he might go to body? I understand that technique has been used before.
Nancy Grace: YES!!! Why else take his new car, and then return it shortly thereafter! Unless they wanted to check for some trace evidence.
Question from Mollie: Don't you think Scott "knows" what the cops are up to?
Nancy Grace: To an extent... he was back in the home and could probably make out their focus; he could clearly determine what was missing.
Question from ctv_warhorse2: What would be the reasons to seal court documents?
Nancy Grace: So as not to hinder police investigation and in some circumstances...privacy of the parties
Question from kiara: Nancy, were you surprised with the verdict for Phyllis, whose husband died from knife wound? She was an extremely intelligent, confident and articulate witness on the stand.
Nancy Grace: No...I still would have gone with a jury...were you guys surprised? I mean she got a SWEET SENTENCE!
Question from SherFra: Nancy, this current case, was there a plea bargain discussion, if you know?
Nancy Grace: Yes.....didn't work out! DeGuerin probably thinks he will outsmart the jury!
Question from ctv_warhorse2: What was the infective agent in the abdominal wound of the victim in the current case?
Nancy Grace: Don't know yet...will look up overnight...
Question from SherFra: Nancy on the current trial, how will prosecutors buttress testimony of hit woman?
Nancy Grace: Physical evidence...prior relationship....words/actions of wife before shooting and wait till you find out the info on the gun!
Question from SherFra: Nancy, what happened to the results of tests they did on Scott's boat. I understand there was NO saltwater residue, wouldn't that mean he didn't go fishing that day?
Nancy Grace: Exactly....PLUS cement residue as well, I've been told so at least.
Question from ladyblu: What do you think of judges ruling on the Ramseys?
Question from kiara: Cyril Wecht believes there was no outside intruder in Jonebenet case....will you please comment on judicial opinion that parents are absolved from guilt?
Question from Jazmin: Do you have an opinion on the decision of the judge who deemed the Ramsey's not involved in JonBenet's death?
Nancy Grace: I still believe that it was an inside crime...but I understand the judge's ruling when it comes to the Ramsey's bringing up other possible suspects.....
Question from SherFra: Nancy, how can DeGuerin think that the gunshot wound was NOT proximate cause of death. If the victim was never shot, he wouldn't have been in hospital to get infected in the first place.
Nancy Grace: Because he's got to argue SOMETHING!!!
Question from ctv_warhorse2: What is the latest news on the series Trial By Fire you taped?
Nancy Grace: Fergie's talks how beat me out for this season...then they decided (NBC) not to go with her, I understand, and they are going with another...brace yourself... REALITY SHOW!!! There's always next year...the Lord works in VERY, VERY mysterious ways!
Question from divatop: You are reality!
Question from ctv_warhorse2: Geez! What can be more reality than crimes??
Nancy Grace: hahahaha!
Question from Zeppo: Nancy, On the family website, it was said on page 11, that the family were now unsure if Scott was in fact guilty, that his alibi has been supported by "other" parties. They have also taken down the "meet the new girlfriend" section. Any thought's on this?
Nancy Grace: I have not seen that...will look
Question from Jayla: Nancy, what's your reaction to the recent comments made by one of the snipers, Malvo, claiming he would do it again if he could etc...
Nancy Grace: I hope it comes into evidence in case one of the potential jurors were feeling sorry for him. And it will come in I predict. He has long ago been Mirandized.
Question from gruff: Nancy, are a lot of cases normally reported by the media being overlooked today because of the situation in Iraq?
Nancy Grace: Definitely.
Question from Jayla: Nancy, did you see the interview with Katie Couric and the Central Park jogger? If so, what do you think of her going public after all these years?
Nancy Grace: I think that she did not have the strength to do it before now.... she couldn't even walk for so long.
Question from SherFra: Nancy, what punishment does Vegan Couple face, who were convicted on all counts Friday?
Question from Trisha: Nancy, any thoughts on the vegan parents?
Nancy Grace: They face several years...1-15, I believe, on neglect Trust the judge to give a light sentence....
Question from Jazmin: Any news on the Spector case?
Nancy Grace: The last thing was a press release saying it would be proved accidental suicide.... I have not yet heard a formal statement by law enforcement. That presser was from the defense camp.
Question from ctv_warhorse2: It has been reported that Malvo asked for an attorney but did not get one during his first interview/confession.
Nancy Grace: He did get an attorney...paid for by you and me...when he requested it...I was told by local police the issue was that there was an attorney there saying he represented defendant... but unclear whether yet really retained....as I understand it.
Question from SherFra: What is an accidental suicide, with two gunshots??????
Nancy Grace: one neighbor said she heard two...another said one. Police said one... so conflicting that was my thought too!
Nancy Grace: Remember when we were all talking about what Laci was wearing the night before? At the hair salon? I asked Amy Rocha on LKL and the next day it was everywhere... police even took Amy to scene in next search.... I wonder what they found. I know Amy was crying when she left Laci's home that day.
Question from Jayla: Nancy, were you surprised to find out that Arna Zlotnik will not be representing Earle Caldwell any longer?
Nancy Grace: Very. Did she seem unprepared to you? I'm not surprised he may have WANTED ANOTHER LAWYER after the initial hearings, but I'm surprised Blake would agree to the expense of hiring another lawyer this late in the game...and pay them to get up to speed, but I guess he'll pay whatever it takes to keep Caldwell on board.
Question from Yeehaw: Nancy : Can Scott sue the cops when he is found not involved with Laci's missing?
Nancy Grace: Probably not...he certainly acts suspicious so as to lead them on a goose chase
Question from SherFra: Have the Smarts retained individual counsel for Eliz. as recommended by Patti Hearst on Larry King?
Nancy Grace: Yes, they have...and I think it's wise.
Question from ctv_warhorse2: Give us your thoughts on Geraldo Rivera`s big mistake while embedded with troops in Iraq.
Nancy Grace: I think it is a shame... a certain contingent of people love Geraldo for various reasons. I hate that focus is off war and our military...off the fight on terror... and onto journalists, who are not a part of the news...or shouldn't be anyway, and I think the networks should drop those ridiculous name-calling commercials. I'm glad CNN hasn't done it.
Question from Jayla: Nancy, has there been an actual arrest for the murder of Kristine Johnson out in CA...I know someone was in custody
Nancy Grace: I believe not...probably no rush either... because once a formal indictment comes down then the defendant is entitled to all sorts of constitutional rights that as a mere suspect, he is not -- such as a demand for a speedy trial. He is in jail on another charge so why not let him sit there and stew while the state thoroughly prepares its case?
Question from Jayla: Nancy, have you heard anything more about Robert Blake possibly having some form of cancer?
Nancy Grace: No...but I wouldn't be surprised if that were circulating...true or not.
Question from SherFra: Nancy, what are your thoughts regarding Earle Caldwell getting complete immunity, and accepting, flipping on Blake, rather than chancing a jury verdict?
Nancy Grace: NO WAY! I would think prosecutors would opt for trying them together! Don't cut a deal with the devil! Who knows who actually pulled the trigger?
Question from Sundance: Nancy, hello. Will CTV carry the Tommy Lee case, if so when? We were there...judge didn't want cameras to show the trial. We are just reporting on it.
Question from Mollie: Nancy, why does the government say it doesn't matter who the shooter was in Malvo case?
Nancy Grace: Not literally -- they are saying that it doesn't matter in that the two of them acted in concert regardless of who pulled the trigger. I agree with you -- it sounds VERY MISLEADING!!!
Question from Sundance: Hello Nancy,in Tommy Lee civil suit, will his lawyers have a subpoena sent to Germany for the nanny?
Nancy Grace: I would think so... It'll be very difficult getting her back! Should have thought of it before she left!
Question from Jayla: Nancy, although Mitchell and Barzee have been arrested, could Ricci still be looked into as having a connection with them...or has he been officially cleared?
Nancy Grace: yes...I think it is being explored in some divisions of law enforcement as the two were working as handymen at the same home but it will be very difficult if not impossible to prove if it were true. It's hard to believe it was just coincidence.
Question from ctv_warhorse2: I`ll ask you the 13th juror question of today. Should the mastermind in a murder receive a stiffer sentence than the shooter? Why?
Nancy Grace: I think they should both get the death penalty... because they both did the deed...if prosecutors are correct, one the brain...one the hand which is more culpable? Both.
Question from gruff: Nancy those journalists from Poland who were kidnapped when they made a wrong turn show just how dangerous it can be for the media. Do you think it wise that reporters risk their lives to report the story or news?
Nancy Grace: I think a fish gottta swim and a bird gotta fly...can't keep reporters away.
Question from SherFra: Why don't they codify in the statute that the mastermind of a murder conspiracy should get the higher penalty, most people don't get the concept.
Nancy Grace: Facts could change the proper outcome, and statute could bind a jury's thinking....also a jury is the sole decision maker when it comes to the facts. Who is to decide culpability based on the facts? The legislature? (all defense attorneys) or a jury?
Question from Mollie: Nancy, so the police have discounted the mechanic's story about the car being taken out by Ricci?
Nancy Grace: That bugs me too! I still believe Seth Maoul... Why would he lie? No motive! The only possibilities are that he was involved somehow or used the car for something else that he lied about...IF repairman telling the truth i understand Ricci flunked lie detector -- what i read on wires
Question from Jayla: Nancy, do you think Christian Longo will be sentenced to death?
Nancy Grace: I do.
Question from Mollie: Nancy, what do you know about Andrea Yates husband wanting a divorce now?
Nancy Grace: He does...and i think she is contesting it! or at least doesnt want it
Question from gruff: Nancy as a former prosecutor could you ever see yourself on the other side of the courtroom defending an individual charged with a crime?
Nancy Grace: No. I could never be responsible for a criminal being released to go out and repeat again, not on my conscience i pray
Question from Mollie: Nancy, in the Tommy Lee case, do you think the parents are going after "deep pockets"?
Nancy Grace: There are deep pockets, true... but it will likely be paid by insurance I think they would be suing regardless of whose pool it was.
Question from Jazmin: Any opinions on the Jayson Williams case?
Nancy Grace: The cover-up and lies to police are the most damning thing about the facts, and also the fact that while he was allegedly getting everyone to lie...and changing his clothes and moving the scene and the gun and the victim around he could have been saving Gus Chrstopi's life -- very upsetting
Question from Zeppo: Nancy, have you ever seen a trial where the defendant was convicted, who you thought was innocent?
Nancy Grace: Thinking..... no, not personally.
Question from Soccermom: Whose responsibility is it in that situation? If each child had a caregiver there, then isn't it that person's responsibility to watch that child?
Nancy Grace: Unless the pool was hazardous for some reason, and also a pool is considered an attractive nuisance, when a homeowner invites someone into the home, the owner is liable for harm done because of a characteristic of the home, such as a loose tile or a faulty electrical gadget, much like a slip and fall on water in the frozen food section of grocery it is the grocery's fault, not the innocent customer. That is the theory anyway.
Question from Mollie: Nancy, is it possible that ctv could show the military trial of the soldier who threw the grenade in the tents?
Nancy Grace: I wish...but military trials are closed they are seeking the death penalty, I understand.
Question from SherFra: Nancy, are there any professional or legal repercussions to S. Feldman for providing what we now know to be a false and misleading defense of Westerfield. He tried to cut a deal to show the police the body before it was found, how can his atty than try to prove Westerfield didn't put it there?
Nancy Grace: No.... and Feldman more attacked the state's case than argued his guy was innocent... did you notice how he attacked police finding the porn, suggested it was somebody else's, and argued that Danielle had been in rv before? Smoke and mirrors.
Court TV Host: Here's a follow-up to your comment about not wanting to take the defense side...
Question from Soccermom: What if someone approached you and you were SURE they were innocent?
Nancy Grace: If i truly believed they were innocent, after my own investigation, I would try everything within my power for them to be freed and the true perp brought to justice so a repeat offense would not take place...as it normally does.
Court TV Host: And back to the Tommy Lee case...
Question from damien: What about the darn parents who just dropped off this child? Don't they bear some responsibility to see that he was being properly watched? Is attractive nuisance the only thing at issue here?
Nancy Grace: I assume the parents believed the party was safe... i have no reason to think they believed the party would be dangerous
Question from GregRuth: Nancy, I am a huge fan of yours...please comment on your opinion regarding the TX sodomy law?
Nancy Grace: I predict it will be repealed so as to allow for private acts between consenting adults.
Question from Jayla: Nancy, do you think Phyllis Nelson's defense would have been more successful if she claimed self-defense and not an accident?
Nancy Grace:
Court TV Host: Any closing thoughts?
Nancy Grace: He's kicking me off! Can you believe it?
