SAN FRANCISCO (Court TV) — Tech executive Bob Lee, known for launching Cash App, died after an apparent stabbing attack in California early Tuesday morning.
The CEO of Lee’s current employer, MobileCoin, confirmed Lee’s death to CNN in a statement, saying, “Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators. Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature. Bob was the genuine article. He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”

The San Francisco Police Department confirmed in a news release that it was investigating a deadly stabbing, but did not identify the victim by name. Police said officers were called to a reported stabbing Tuesday at approximately 2:35 a.m., and found a 43-year-old male victim suffering from “apparent stab wounds” who died after he was taken to the hospital.
Investigators said Lee was found unconscious with two stab wounds to his chest, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Police did not name any suspects in the case.
Prior to working for MobileCoin, Lee served as the first CEO of Square, and helped create Cash App, USA Today reported.
Supervisor Matt Dorsey told the San Francisco Chronicle that he has been in contact with the police about their investigation into what he termed a “senseless tragedy.”
Bill Barhydt, the CEO of Abra, a cryptocurrency company, remembered Lee on Twitter: “Bob was a dad, the former CTO of Square where he created Cash App & CTO of Mobile Coin. He was a generous decent human being who didn’t deserve to be killed.”
