A quarter of a century ago a young immigrant bride and her Marine veteran husband found themselves in the center of media storm due to a night of domestic violence. She claims he drunkenly raped her. He claims that in an unprovoked rage she took a kitchen knife and sliced off his “manhood.” Their names — Lorena and John Bobbitt and their story captivated the nation, become fodder for late night comedians, tabloids and cable news talking heads for years as both faced a jury of their peers for their part in the incident.
